Tutorial: Covering acne, scarring, discoloration, etc
Posted on July 28th, 2010 25 comments
The yellow cast you see on my cheeks is my blush. I didn’t pick a very good color for this tut, it was a brownish nude and showed up on camera weird in this light. If you have any questions please either leave a comment below or send me a message here at youtube.
thanks! I am wearing blush in the parts where I have my full face of makeup on. Therefore changing the color of my cheeks. It’s not a color difference because of the foundation layering. For those of you that asked the makeup I’m wearing on my eyes: Mac Valet on lid (any shimmer finish copper) Mac Embark in crease and lower lashes (matte brown) White Tie for highlight (any highlight would do) Urban Decay Electric 24/7 liner on bottom waterline (bright blue liner)Related posts:

@glintzy Well, the first layer all over the face really blends well with my skin tone. When I do the layers on the cheeks it just gets whiter and whiter. In the end I look like…well, a dead person. Or a vampire. hee. I’ve tried to put on a darker powder to set it but that turns into that whole mask look.

@fadexscape I haven’t found a concealer that works as well for me as the Colorstay. Can you describe more of what it’s doing, I’m not sure I’m understanding what the corpe look would be.

I was able to find a good color match but after the 2nd layer on the cheeks I started to look like a corpse. -_- I don’t want to get a darker color because I hate looking like I have a mask on. Do you have any suggestions on how I can avoid that or do you know of any really good concealers that I can also do with this method?

Your so pretty and you did an amazing job applying your foundation:)

@euwohnnah It would depend on how dark, noticeable or red the blemishes are. If they are on the light side you wouldn’t need as many layers, then just jump right to the little brush just on the spots. My scarring has faded more since I’ve made this video and as time goes on I use less and less foundation overall.

I love love love love your honesty and sincerity. You did a really amazing job in this vid. I don’t know how I missed this vid before. I’ve heard you mention scarring before, but you do such a fantastic job covering it. You are positively adorable, with a personality to match, with or without make up, and I am sure you inspire people to try your methods to help gain self confidence. Thank you for your vids!!! <3

I have the same scarring mine faded, but i recently broke out really bad again so i like this tutorial. I really like the natural look so I was wondering if you you can do this with less foundation to make it look natural, like the first layer you did, and then after that somehow layer a good concealer?

aaah this was really helpful because you actually said something different than all of the other repetitive suggestions and methods and you can literally see how your techniques cover up your blemishes unlike other people who talk about covering blemishes when their “spots” are nearly undetectable on camera so of course it’s easy for them to cover them up. thank you!

I totally get what you mean about moisturizer. My skin tends to be oily, particularly in my T-zone, and moisturizers don’t really help. They just make my skin oilier :p. This tutorial, though, was great because it showed me how to cover my acne scars and blemishes well but without caking on makeup (something I did far too often because I didn’t know any bettter). Thanks for this helpful video!

@SashaIlic222 I honestly think my skin does a lot better when I’m not using moisturizer. It would be a personal choice. I’ve read that contrary to popular belief oily skin doesn’t always need a moisturizer. I tend to believe it from personal experience. Generally speaking people with oily skin also don’t wrinkle as fast as people with dry skin. I have been using Lush Grease Lighting spot treatment over my entire face acne for a long time, it’s aloe based so that does give me a bit of moisture.

Love your videos. I have similar skin (oily & hormonal acne/scaring from teenage years). I use the same Lush products for my skin, but was wondering something. You mentioned that your skin doesn’t do well with moisturizers. I’m guessing it’s because of the oily skin. Well I moisturize with an SPF in the morning and then a night cream at night. But I wake up with my skin feeling super oily in the morning from it. Also been told moisturizing is key to not having wrinkles. Should i just go without?

Hi! Your video was soo helpful! I’ve gone through tons of makeup and can’t find anything that works for me!
My makeup always looks uneven and the color is always off. My biggest problem, is that within a few hours after first applying the makeup, my skin start to look oily and verrry shiny! I have very oily skin!
Do you have any suggestions to help control the shine? -

@glintzy
Hey I loved this tutorial, I could not believe how covered your scars were, I cannot wait to try on mine tomorrow. I was surprised that it was not just a tiny dot of acne scarring but real scaring. Some of mine is now intended in my skin so when you see me in the light u can see it, hopefully this will help cover that as well. I cant believe how clear ur skin looks, u never would have guessed, if I saw u out in public with makeup on I would be jealous of ur clear skin! -

I use “Vita-K solution- professional” for acne scars. I purchased it from my local Rite Aid and it has done wonders on my acne scars. Maybe you should check it out.
